a few tidbits...

1. first 12 hr work/practicum day = completed, not quite as bad as i thought it would be, and slightly more fun than i had anticipated

2. i FINALLY got a hair cut today and can now stop pinning my bangs back (and looking like a white trash teenager, as michael would say). while i was getting my hair cut, i got to sit in a recliner and put my feet up while they washed my hair. they also put my coat on for me before i left. apparently, $40 can buy you everything you could ever want.

3. i had every intention of writing a whole blog devoted to my new love of buying socks, but then opted not to for multiple reasons. first, who writes a blog about socks?? and second, i really wanted to include a picture of the socks that i had bought, but my camera is broken and the socks were not pictured on the GAP website. but... i have to share a little. i just can't buy enough socks lately! i especially love the deal at the GAP where you get 3 pairs for $15. it's probably not the cheapest deal out there, but i really love their socks. (ok, i guess i am a person who blogs about socks)

4. i really like calling my sister stephanie just "sister". i did that today when i talked to her on the phone. i said "hello, sister." and then there were more things said after that.

5. i just realized that every blog i have written has ended with "ok, something, something, something." so, in keeping with this well established blog theme of mine...

...ok, i better get back to work. maybe 8pm will come more quickly if i actually do some work.

p.s. come over and see my new IKEA bookshelf. it will make your day.

all you ladies leave your man at home...for the wives party weekend, 2010!

i went to cincinnati, OH this weekend with these lovely ladies: annie, carrie, and colleen. we had a pretty good time... pretty, pretty, pretty good.

we toured ikea and bought some crap, ate fancy italian food, partied at our hotel (which included watching some cable tv and having girl talk), ate a fancy continental breakfast (notice the "fancy" theme of the weekend), did some people watching at trader's world and bought some more crap, gawked at the unbelievably huge mall and bought EVEN more crap, ate at the food court, and then headed home. we did what ladies do best: eat and shop. and let me tell you, we are REALLY good at both of those things.

i bought a couple of bookshelves and other semi-unnecessary things from ikea (well, not completely unnecessary-- it's stuff to help me organize, a favorite pastime of mine), some danglies and cheap eyeliner at the flea market, some extra large shirts at some teeny bopper stores, and some socks from the gap (see next blog entry for more details).

i really like going on ladies weekend and day trips, and just ladies outings in general. i have always valued time with my ladyfriends, but now that my two roommates are dudes (and most of my recent roommates have been dudes), i treasure it even more. it turns out that mike adams is not so good at girl talk. he tries, but he is just no lady. i think his back hair...i mean, his muscles...his muscles prove that. anyway, it is nice to be surrounded by just ladies (and have fun sleepovers) from time to time.

ok, i guess i better get started putting my new bookshelves together. you should come over and check them out sometime. you could even spend a night helping me organize things on them. it could be really fun! seriously.

now, for my next act, i will disappear

i am about to embark on a seemingly impossible endeavor...i will be starting my first practicum for graduate school (at the indiana resource center for autism)...next week. this is going to be a MAJOR life change for me. with working full-time, still, and doing my practicum for 16 hours each week, i will basically be working five 12-hour days. yikes, is right! it feels like i am getting ready to train for a marathon or something, but instead of the training being weeks long, it is going to be months, and months, and months long. and after i am done with the whole thing, i won't even get a medal or a tee shirt. i mean, i guess i will have a diploma (eventually), but i think i would rather have the medal or the tee shirt. maybe i will make myself one when i am done. i am not exactly sure how i am going to survive this, but i have heard that people do.

in addition to working and doing my practicum, i will also be taking an online class. so, i will have to throw homework into the mix as well. i am thankful that i will not have to drive to indy each week for class (which would actually be impossible because i won't be done with work every night until 8pm!), but i think i would trade doing my practicum for driving to indy, everyday even.

most of you know that some of my favorite things to do are hang-out, and party (and plan parties), and do fun things, but i am not going to have time to do any of those things this semester. i am hoping that i will (at least) still be able to party down and live it up on the weekends, but i think i will be lucky if i even get to do that. i will probably be sleeping or working on homework or trying to keep our house from turning into a disaster area. so, if i don't see you this semester, please don't forget me! and know that i would MUCH rather be spending time with you than working or doing my practicum or doing homework.

i guess i should try to look on the bright side on this whole thing, right? i should just focus on all of the cool things i am going to learn this semester. and keep telling myself that learning is worth it, learning IS worth it!

ok, that's enough practicum talk for now. i am sure that you will be hearing much more about it as the semester goes on. and i sink deeper and deeper into this black hole...

p.s. i will miss you.

my second blog post (one year later)

so...blogging did NOT go so well in 2009. i guess my heart just wasn't in it. but, i have been thinking about giving it another go. my friend annie recently started a blog and my husband michael started one not too long ago. also, my friends jennie and carrie have been doing it for quite sometime. and there are too many others to name, but all of these people have inspired me. all the cool kids are doing it. i need to make this happen.

but, i am not going to set any lofty goals or make any promises like i did last time-- i am just going to try to post a blog or two, here and there. so that maybe by this time next year, my blog archive won't be completely bare. and i will try to make reading them worth your while.

i figured since you all were really looking forward to reading about all the happenings in my life, in 2009, on my blog, i could do a quick re-cap of all the fun things that i did...

2009 RE-CAP
january-- hosted the best VollmOrr party to date, complained about cold and snow

february-- hopped on the hot bods train, did a lot of fun things on the weekends (including first FNL)

march-- did not go on an awesome spring break trip, got a new nephew

april-- nearly died due to work and school stress

may-- finished first year of grad school, went to the beach, reunited with lovely college roomies

june-- 2nd annual adams family & friends yard sale

july-- went back to the beach, 4th of july got rained out (but we still had a blast)

august-- ruled the wedding toasts at the cheek's wedding, went roller skating for my 26th birthday

september-- attended XRA fest '09, also attend first colts game ever (go cotes!)

october-- celebrated 3 year wedding anniversary, dressed up like a spice girl for halloween

november-- realized i had fallen off the hot bods train several months ago

december-- traveled all over the state of indiana for christmas, had a killer new year's party at our house (4th annual)

ok, that should do it for now. i probably shouldn't waste all my blogging energy on my first gettin-back-in-the-game post. see you soon.
